The River

A rich, pure river of life
Flowing with love,
From the sanctuary, the Father's throne,
Flowing into my life.
He invites me to walk, even swim in this river
His pure water, joins with my foul water,
Sweetening my waters with life, with His love.
We flow together,
Him and I.

This river has different depths.
Ankle deep is a choice,
But how can I be satisfied with ankle deep,
When He offers knee deep, even waist deep.
Waist deep waters of pure love flowing from the Father's heart.
He waits for me to enter and receive.

As I enter these waters and walk in this pure love,
Such a revelation of His gift of grace and love overwhelm me.
He begins to teach me His love,
Teach me about His goodness and His desires for me.
A desire for MORE awakens within me as He beckons me to enter deeper.

He invites me to the deeper waters,
Deeper waters where I need to swim.
I hesitate, "I can't swim!" I cry.
"I will take care of you." He whispers.
"To enter these waters you must trust completely,
Trust my goodness, trust who I say I am."

I gaze at the river and see the sparkling light reflecting from the brightness of His glory,
I close my eyes and see His blood-stained face,
His nail-pierced hands, His beaten body,
His love that allowed this invitation to become available to me.

I jump...there is no other option.
How can I reject that love?
How can I let fear, unbelief,or procastination
Keep me from receiving the intensity and desire of this love that screams for attention?

As I swim in this river of pure love,
My eyes and my heart are opened to a revelation of His love that is breathtaking, incomprehensible.
His love for me can no longer be a passing thought,
A truth I remember on occasion,
Just a song that I sing,
A truth that I only hoped was true.

No, His love is a sure reality that surrounds me and possesses me.
It's a truth that changes everything about me.
It changes my thoughts, my desires, my dreams.
It changes my words making them gracious and grateful.
It changes my relationships, how I see others.
It gives me hope in all my situations,
Healing me, making me totally whole.

As we flow and swim together in this river of love,
His love flows through me to so many others on my path,
So they too can behold the magnitude of the love of the Father.

On the banks of the river of this pure love,
Grow all kinds of trees for fruit
For the nourishment and enjoyment of His beloved on the earth.

What an inheritance!

Ezekiel 47:1-12
